In Ubuntu, NetworkManager is the brains behind automatically setting up network device settings. Including both wired and wireless connections. If the troubleshooting steps we mentioned above did not do the job for you, then the next step you need to do is to work with NetworkManager.

But before anything else, you need to ensure that you have an internet connection or connection to your local area network. Otherwise, tampering with the connection settings may cause more problems for you.

If you’re not confident and have doubts to do this step, then we recommend getting an IT professional to fix the problem for you.

In this step, you will be restarting your network interface. This will also restart your computer’s network hardware which should fix any ethernet porting problems.

2. To check the network adaptor via command, run ‘ifconfig’ and then type in ‘sudo dhcp eno1’ to make the motherboard display its network adaptor name.
3. Once you found the name of your computer’s network, use a different device to search and download the latest updates for your specific network driver.

Update Packages and Kernel

If non of the quick fixes that we mentioned above work for you, then it’s probably best to consider going into a more technical aspect of Ubuntu. In this method, we recommend updating all packages and kernels of your Ubuntu OS.

There are 2 ways you can do to update your system. It can be either through Command Line or the use of GUI tools like Ukuu. For the first one, you have to manually download the DEB file for the new Linux kernel and install it in the terminal. For the second one, you download a tool called Ukuu and it will do the updating for you.

Regardless of what method you choose, this should fix your Ethernet problems,

In this article, we lay out the fastest and simplest fixes you can do to fix your microphone problem.

Your microphone is not properly plugged in

If you’ve just taken your microphone out of the box and it’s the first time you’re plugging it into your computer, there may be a chance that it is not properly plugged into the audio port. Luckily, this is an easy fix.

All you have to do is to make sure that the audio jack is plugged in all the way to the audio port. If your microphone has a detachable cable, you’ll also want to make sure that it’s securely connected and locked to the microphone itself.

Also, take note that there are different microphones with different cables. Some use a USB port on both ends, and there are also others that have a bigger audio jack. Ensure that you’re using the correct one for your device.

Your headphones or speakers are not plugged in correctly or are faulty

One of the easiest troubleshooting steps you can try is to check if your audio output device such as your headphones and speakers is working properly. Check if they are properly plugged in.

Worst-case scenario, they’re broken and they have to be replaced. If this is the case, you may try out different speakers or headphones to isolate the issue and replace them as you see fit.

Permission to use the microphone is not enabled

If your microphone works on other programs or applications but it seems it doesn’t work on one application, there may be a chance that the permissions for it are not enabled.

Usually, Windows prompts you when software wants to use your microphone and if you want to enable permissions for it, if you happen to click “Don’t Allow” or a similar message, you can turn it back on by going to the Privacy & Security settings.

To do this, click Start, then Settings, and then go to the Privacy & Security selection. From here, enabled Microphone access and also enable that for the program or application you want to use it for. When done, you can test if it works by making a test call or recording on that specific program.

The microphone might be muted

More often than not, our microphones are switched to mute for privacy reasons. We’re not always talking with someone over the computer online, so it’s always a good practice to keep the mic on mute when not in use.

With this in mind, the reason why you can’t hear any sound from your microphone is that it’s simply on mute. An easy way to fix this is to go to the Sound Settings on your System by clicking Start>Settings>Sound. From there, locate the input section and untick the mute button on the microphone. You may try to increase the volume as well.

Another method you can try is to check if your microphone or its cable has a hardware switch or toggle for the mute button and turn it off.

You may have enabled Push-to-Talk

Some programs have a Push-to-Talk button that only accepts inputs from your microphone when you want it even when it’s connected. This helps you prevent unnecessary noises or disturbances during a conversation. So, it’s more of a feature than an actual issue.

For your microphone to work, you will need to have it activated when you want to talk. Check the settings of the specific program you want to use your microphone which hotkey activates your microphone.

Different programs use different hotkeys, so it’s best to always check if the feature is activated and which hotkey enabled your microphone.

Furthermore, there are also microphones with a hardware switch for the feature. You can check it in the cable or the microphone itself if there’s a button for it.

You’re using an incorrect audio device

Your PC lets you connect multiple audio devices. You can have a selection of multiple input and output audio devices, and you can switch on the fly on Windows. Now, in this regard, there’s a good chance that you’re currently using a different microphone.

In order to fix this, click Start, System, then Settings, then Sound.  From that selection, look for the Input selection and choose the appropriate microphone that you want to use.

You may need to install or update your drivers

Whenever you plug in a new device like a microphone, Windows usually searches for drivers automatically. However, there may be times when you will have to install it manually.

Check if your microphone has an installation CD included in the packaging. You may also check the manual if there’s a QR code or a link that directs you to where the drivers are located.

If that doesn’t work, you can also go to Device Manager by typing it on the search bar once you click Start or go to Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound, and then click on Device Manager under Devices and Printers.

From there, a window should appear, and you will then be able to choose the device you want to update from the selection. Right-click on that device and choose Update Driver. Follow the prompts to get it updated to the latest version.

Check if your microphone is plugged into the correct audio port

Desktop PCs have multiple audio ports for the speakers and headphones, microphones, and line-in. Each port has a designated function so you would be informed of what they do. They’re also usually color-coded so you know which device goes to which port. 

Check to see if you plugged in your microphone to the appropriate port. It’s usually the pink audio port or the one where the microphone symbol is labeled.

Now, you can also plug in the microphone in the port situated at the front of your PC. While they are not color-coded, there should also be an indication for it. It’s also important to note that some PC cases only have a single audio port for a headset for both input and output.

You may need to purchase a splitter if you have a separate microphone and speaker or headphones. There are also microphones that use USB ports instead of standard audio jacks. Check if they are plugged in properly as well.

Check the hardware mute button

Headsets and microphones today have a dedicated mute switch designed for your privacy and safety. Just in case you prefer using it over push-to-talk or you don’t want unnecessary noises when you’re on a call, these dedicated mute switches or toggles help you do just that.

If you think your microphone isn’t working, first check to see if the mute button or toggle is on. There’s usually a control switch on the cable if it’s a headset or a button on a standalone microphone itself.

Try resetting your PC

Sometimes, whenever you install or plug in a new device, Windows automatically searches drivers and installs them for you, but then proceeds to prompt you to restart your PC to let you use your device.

If you’re having this problem with your computer, fret not. Here are some ways to quickly fix this issue.

Replug cables

If your microphone is detected but it’s not recording or taking in any sound then the first thing you should check is the cable. There are some circumstances from time to time where a computer can detect a connected device but it is unable to function properly because it is not properly plugged in.

If you are using a microphone with cables such as an external one or a headset, it’s best to ensure that the cables are tightly plugged into their proper ports.

If you’re using a USB microphone…

• Try to plug it into another USB port.
• Try plugging it into a slower USB port if your PC has multiple USB ports with different generations.
• Make sure that the USB is plugged into a USB data port and not on a USB charging port.

If you’re using a microphone or a headset that uses a 3.5mm audio jack…

• Try to unplug the cable and slowly plug it in but not too hard.
• Try to twist and turn the pin while plugging it in.
• Make sure that you plug the audio cable of your microphone into the correct color port (Pink) and not on the speaker port (Green) for headsets with a built-in microphone.

The problem with a 3.5mm audio jack is that the metal surface of the pin should be tightly in contact with the metal surface of the port. Any loose connection can result in a malfunction of the microphone or weak to no audio pick-up performance.

Make sure the microphone is not muted

Depending on the model and type of microphone you use, there are some models that come with a built-in mute function and volume control. So the first thing that you would want to do is make sure that the microphone is not muted by the system.

To check, right-click on the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select “Sound or Recording Devices“. Under the Recording tab, find and right-click your microphone.

Click “Properties” and click on the Levels tab. Ensure that the speaker icon has no red sign beside it and the volume is set to 100. Check the changes if needed and click “Apply”.

If your microphone has a built-in sound and volume control and the system settings have no problem, check and see if the volume control is set to lowest or if the mute button is active.

Additionally, your microphone can also be muted by the software you are using it with. For example, online meeting software such as Zoom, Skype, Google Meets, etc have settings that mute your microphone.

Furthermore, other software such as video games, recording tools, and more can also do the same thing. So it’s always best to check and verify each set to ensure that all configurations are correct and working.

Once done, dee if the microphone problem persists.

Updating microphone drivers

If the first 2 fixes that we mentioned above don’t fix your microphone problem, then it’s time to look at the technical side. The first thing that you would want to check is the microphone drivers.

For your computer to be able to use and communicate with your microphone, it needs a set of drivers that will allow these two devices to work together.

Unfortunately, there are times that system updates or software changes can affect the driver installed for your microphone which ultimately results in issues with functionality. In the worst case, it can break the coded software on your device.

Here are some of the things that you can do:

• Update the drivers of your microphone. To do this, visit the website of the manufacturer and check if there are new firmware or driver updates for your microphone.
• Check with windows update if there are any new drivers for your microphone by performing a ‘Check for updates’ via the Windows Update.
• Uninstall the driver and reinstall it. Sometimes, a simple reinstall can fix the problem. To do this, open your ‘Device Manager’ window. You can open this window by typing it on the search bar for Windows OS. Then, click on ‘Audio Inputs and Outputs’ to expand it and right-click on your microphone. Select “Uninstall device” from the contextual menu. Once done, unplug your microphone and restart the computer. After a complete restart, plug back in your microphone and let the system handle its drivers.

After performing all of the recommended fixes above, check to see if the problem still persists.

Confirm apps have access to your microphone

Computers running on Windows 10 and onwards have a new feature that prevents software/apps from being able to use your microphone and such feature scopes under the Microsofts privacy feature. For computers running on older Windows OS, this won’t be an issue at all.

It’s possible that you might have accidentally blocked an app from accessing your microphone. To verify if this is an issue for your computer, head to Settings and then Privacy to take a look. On the left sidebar, click Microphone under App permissions. And then, make sure that the slider under Allow apps to access your microphone is enabled. Otherwise, no apps will be able to use it.

We also recommend taking a good look through the list of apps to confirm the one you want to use has access. This first slider and list are only for Microsoft Store apps but scrolling further down will show a section titled Allow desktop apps to access your microphone. Double-check that the slider under this header is also enabled.

While you can’t toggle mic access for individual desktop apps, you can, however, still view when they last accessed your mic. This can help you figure out if the app is detecting your mic properly, as the problem might lie with the app itself.

Faulty hardware

If all the recommended fixes we mentioned above did not fix your microphone problem, then it’s good to consider that the issue lies in the hardware of your microphone. There can be a number of issues and reasons for a microphone not to work but some of the most common issues that can cause such problems are hardware related.

To verify if it’s a hardware problem, try to plug in or use a different microphone. We highly recommend plugging the microphone into the same port to also verify if it’s a port problem or not.

For USB microphones/headphones, try plugging them in and see if the issue still persists. For 3.5mm jack microphones, try to plug them into a different microphone port if you have one. Most computer systems nowadays will have 2 different microphones 3.5mm audio port.

One on the case that connects to the audio section of your motherboard while the other one is directly connected and soldered to the motherboard.

In the worst possible case, if the issue still persists, we highly recommend plugging your microphone into a different computer and verifying if the issue persists. If your microphone works properly on a different computer, then this could indicate faulty microphone hardware on your motherboard components.

The only way to get this issue fix if this is the case is to either hire a certified technician who can fix your motherboard for you or buy a new motherboard that’s compatible with your system and has a working audio component.

Disable Xbox game bar

Windows 10 and later OS comes with a default gaming designed software called Xbox Game Bar. This software can record clips and screenshots of your game as you play. While this is a handy feature to have for streamers and gamers, it’s also known to cause mic issues, especially in some game titles and software.

To disables the Xbox game bar, all you have to do is head to Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar and then disable the Xbox Game Bar. Once done, it is also best to ensure that the Record in the background while I’m playing a game is disabled.

To do this, click on the Captures tab and disable it. Disabling this feature prevents the system from exclusively prioritizing Xbox Game Bar in using the microphone. We also recommend verifying and checking the settings of either AMD or NVIDIA depending on what graphics card you are using and the software installed.

If your Adobe PDF printer is not working, fret not. Here are some fast and easy fixes that you can do to make it work again.

How To Fix Adobe PDF Printer Not Working

In most cases, reinstalling Adobe will do the trick. Regardless if you’re getting numerous or different errors than what you have researched for.

This includes errors such as Adobe Reader not found, not showing on your printer’s list, missing Adobe Printer driver, or PDF files missing from the printer list.

Before anything else, it’s best to note that with the latest technology we have on our computers, you won’t need Adobe anymore to manage or print your PDF files. This ability already comes built-in to your computer including Windows, Mac, Linux, and even smartphones such as iOS or Android.

Repair Adobe

If the Adobe printer is either offline or won’t show from your printer option list, there’s a good chance that the software itself is either damaged, its driver got altered, or simply misconfigured for no apparent reason.

To quickly fix this issue, you can either use the repair option that comes with Acrobat or uninstall and reinstall Adobe.

To run the repair option;

1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
2. Click “Help” and then click “Repair Acrobat Installation.”
3. Once the repair is complete, attempt to print your PDF file once more.

If this doesn’t work, then we recommend fully uninstalling the software and deleting all of the files that came with it. Restart your computer, and then reinstall Adobe again.

Reinstall Adobe

If Adobe Acrobat’s PDF Printer repair option did not work, you can always try re-installing it.

For those that are not technically adept at what refers to reinstalling software, it means that you will delete or remove the software and then install it again. It’s like erasing everything you wrote on a piece of paper so you can use that paper to write on it again. This way, the software will be in a fresh state.

This process can be a little bit more complicated than the repair method, but it should not take you a minute or two to perform.

1. Open the Windows Control Panel by pressing the “Windows” key button on the keyboard.
2. Select “Settings” and then “Devices.”
3. Then click on “Printers & Scanners.”
4. Select “Add a Printer,” then “Add a Local Printer.”
5. Search for Adobe PDF Printer. If you found the Adobe PDF Printer, select it. Otherwise, select “The printer that I want isn’t listed.”
6. In the Add Printer dialog box, select “Add a Local Printer or Network printer with Manual Settings.”
7. Click the “Use an existing port” option and then select an Adobe PDF file from the drop-down list of options that appears.
8. Click the “Next” button. Click “Have Disk.” Click “Browse” and then navigate to the location “C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat <version>\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF.”
9. Select “AdobePDF.inf” from the list.
10. Click “Open” and then click “OK.”
11. Finally, you will need to select an Adobe PDF Converter from a list.

Chances are that there will be a number of different versions that you can choose from. Nonetheless, each will have the same name but it’s best to note that each is designed for different versions of Windows.

In this case, click the sixth from the top (as recommended by Adobe), then click “Next.” If this doesn’t work, you will have to go back and select a different Adobe PDF Converter from this same list. This step might take you a few tries before you get the right one.

Once done and you finally got the right one, the next thing you need to do is to enter a name for your printer. In my case, I usually name it “Adobe PDF” so it’s easier to find and fix if any issue arises again.

Once done, the last thing you need to do is to follow the instructions that appear on the screen to finish installing the Adobe PDF Printer.

No Special characters For Filename

In some cases, the problem with Adobe PDF Printer not printing is simpler than we initially thought. Problems such as PDF files having a special character along the filename can cause some issues with printing the file through Adobe. Special characters such as the pound sign (#), left or right brackets { }, or an ampersand (&).

If your file contains any special characters in the file name, then it’s best to rename the file without any special characters, and then try to print again.

Close Background Programs

Adobe recommends keeping 50% of your computer’s resources available to the software when printing PDF files. So if your computer is running too many apps simultaneously and a couple more as background apps, these will hog the resources of your computer. Which then ultimately results in issues with the Adobe PDF Printer.

In this case, close all applications that are running in the background as well as those that you don’t need momentarily. Once done, check if the Adobe PDF Printer now works for you.

Use Another Printer

The common issue with Adobe PDF Printer is that it usually disappears from your printer list or simply lost support for the printer you have. In other cases, system updates as well as printer updates can cause issues with the files and drivers of the Adobe PDF Printer which ultimately results in it not working.

On rare occasions, the problem becomes the other way around. Meaning that the printer device just doesn’t work with the Adobe PDF Printer anymore. For cases like this, here are some troubleshooting you can perform;

1. Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer. Unplug and replug the USB cables as well as the power cable.
2. If your printer is attached to the network, make sure that your computer has access to print on the printer within your local area network.
3. If your printer is wireless and is connected to your local Wi-Fi connection, ensure that the connection is stable and the wireless fidelity signal is communicating with the printer.
4. Lastly, if the first 3 steps we mention don’t work for you, then connect the printer directly to your computer and attempt to print again.

Free software tools can be a headache sometimes and there’s not much we can do about it. That includes the Adobe PDF Printer despite being developed but a reliable software development company.

At this point, if the fixes we mentioned above did not do the job for you, then it’s best to consider consulting a technical specialist. Problems with file printing can range from a simple reconnecting of a loose cable to more complex driver or registry issues.

We highly recommend contacting either Apple Support for Max or iOS users, Microsoft Technical Support for Windows OS users, or the printer manufacturer.

Move File To Local Storage Drive

Another possible cause that most of us tend to ignore is the location of the file. Adobe actually recommends storing PDF files on a local hard disk. This means storing or moving the PDF files to a storage drive that’s directly connected to your computer and is not removable.

In some instances, PDF files that are stored on a removable drive can cause potential problems. This then will prevent you from opening, saving, or printing your PDF files. In a worst-case scenario, your files may end up being damaged or corrupted.

To reduce potential problems and damage to your files. Simply move your PDF file to a local storage drive and attempt to print your file once more.

Print PDF without Adobe

Computers nowadays are capable of printing PDF files without Adobe software. So if your Adobe PDF Printer is not working and all you need from it is to print your PDF files, fret not.

As a last resort, we highly recommend using your computer’s built-in capabilities to manage your PDF files. This includes using the built-in Internet browsers.

Internet browsers such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome have built-in functionalities to read PDF files as well as print them.

To print PDF files without Adobe;

1. Double click on the PDF files that you wish to print on your printer.
2. It will either ask you which software to use to read/open PDF files. In most cases, internet browsers as selected by default. If yours did not, select Microsoft Edge for Windows or Safari for Mac. If you have Google Chrome, that works too.
3. Once the file is open, you will have various options that you can do with your PDF such as highlight, print, or embed.

Microsoft Edge and Safari both come with a built-in PDF reader. Both also allow you to open your local PDF files, online PDF files, or PDF files embedded in web pages. Furthermore, both browsers can also annotate these files with ink and highlighting.
